Now, some out there may be wondering: What is 5.11 Tactical? My favorite product from 5.11 Tactical are their tactical pants. These are often standard wear for Police Officers, Firefighters, and those conducting business in the security field. I like them because they are tougher than jeans, more comfortable than BDU's/ACU's and have large cargo pockets. This makes them perfect wear for Veterans and off-duty Troops who miss having a thigh pocket. The belt loops are sized for a rigger's belt, which covers the comfortable elastic waist band. The pockets are designed for easy access, with a protective strip to keep a knife clip to prevent fraying, and designed to prevent change and other items from falling out when you sit. And these pants have other great features as well, that others might more important, such as the cell phone pocket, or the brass loop for a D Ring.
5.11 Tactical elicits input from their customers on how to improve their products, and are regularly updating their designs based on that input. I did notice they have a multi-cam version, though I don't know if those are authorized for wear in Afghanistan, by the Army. Perhaps someone there does know and will update us in comments.
Tactical pants aren't the only thing they make. They also have great shirts with lots of pockets, polo shirts with pen holders in the sleeves, khaki style pants with hidden pocket, flashlights, and knives, but as far as I'm concerned, the tactical pants are their bread and butter. And they're not just for Sheepdogs. Construction workers and anyone working in an environment tough on clothes will appreciate their durability, and pockets.
Caution: this product can be addictive. Once you put on a pair of 5.11's, you may never want to wear other pants again. You may find yourself looking at the casual pants for when the wife forces you to "dress up."
