An Afghan and coalition security force captured a senior Taliban network facilitator named Mashahud during a security operation in Surkh Rod district, Nangarhar province, January 1. Mashahud is a well-known weapons facilitator who planned large-scale attacks against the local populace throughout the region. He has also been linked to a command wire bomb attack on Dec. 21, 2011, that killed five people in Ghazni.

In Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, an Afghan and coalition security force discovered a weapons cache during a routine patrol yesterday. The cache consisted of six improvised explosive devices, six anti-personnel mines and two five-gallon jugs filled with homemade explosives. The security force destroyed the cache on site without incident.
An Afghan and coalition security force captured two Taliban facilitators during an operation in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, today. The security force confiscated 880 pounds (400 kilograms) of materials from the scene and will be destroyed at a later date. Security forces also detained two suspected insurgents during the operation.
