British soldiers have been based in the Afghan capital for over a decade. The Kabul Joint Support Unit is responsible for moving military and civilian passengers safely around the streets of the city. The unit is based at Camp Souter near the airport, and keeping the surrounding area secure is a priority. As this is a low-threat part of the country, soldiers out on foot patrol can spend time getting to know the locals- in stark contrast to forces based in more dangerous areas further south.
