In Khost district, Khost province, an Afghan led and coalition supported security force captured a Haqqani Network leader during an operation Friday. The leader operated a bomb-making cell in Mandozai district and planned attacks against coalition forces throughout the province.
During the operation, the security force seized multiple AK-47 assault rifles, shotguns, a chest rack, ammunition and bomb-making materials. Several suspected insurgents were also detained for further questioning.

The leader used specialized weapons to conduct direct-fire and roadside bomb attacks against Afghan security forces throughout Marjeh district. One additional suspected insurgent was detained during the operation.
In Kajaki district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force discovered an explosives cache during a patrol Thursday. The cache consisted of approximately 1,280 pounds (582 kilograms) of explosive materials and approximately 370 improvised explosive device components. The security force destroyed all explosives and IED components on site without incident.

During the operation, the security force seized several improvised explosive device components and a number of Afghan police uniforms. The targeted leader is responsible for several attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the province. During the operation, the security force seized multiple firearms and detained several suspected insurgents. The detainees were taken in by Afghan security forces for further questioning. The weapons were destroyed on site without incident. No civilians were harmed during this operation.
