A coalition security force discovered a weapons cache during a routine patrol in Zharay district, Kandahar province, Sunday.
The cache consisted of 16 mortar rounds, 12 recoilless rifle rounds and approximately 62 pounds (28 kilograms) of home-made explosives. The security force confiscated all weapons and explosives to be destroyed at a later date.

FOB LAGMAN, Afghanistan — The 3rd Company, 2nd Kandak, 205th Corps of the Afghan National Army, the 404th Miawand of the Afghan National Police and the National Directorate of Security collaborated on a successful raid that led to the capture of an insurgent Feb. 4 in Mian Juy Kalay village, Mizan district, Zabul province.
The joint Afghan National Security Forces’ operation resulted in the capture of a suspected insurgent improvised explosive device maker and weapons manufacturer for the Taliban and confiscation of multiple weapons, one motorcycle and a cache of IED making materials.
The ANSF developed the operation from Afghan intelligence reports gathered in the local area.
