An Egyptian comedian and filmmaker has been convicted of "Offending Islam" for films he made in the 1990's. This comes on the heels of a Coptic Christian's conviction in January for tweeting a Mickey & Minnie Mouse cartoon. These are just two of the cases recently reported by the ABC News.
The cartoon portrayed Mickey Mouse with a beard and Minnie with a veil. Egyptian businessman, Naguib Sawaris, was prosecuted and convicted by Islamist lawyers for the tweet.
Islamists took 75% of the seats in Parliament in 2012 elections, as the only structured and organized political parties in the vacuum left in Mubarrak's departure. The Islamists are currently writing the new Egyptian Constitution and are poised to win the Presidency of what was once the most diverse and liberal country in the Middle East.
Iranian rulers have proclaimed that the outcome of Arab Spring was completely in their hands and that they won.
US diplomats have stated that allowing Islamists political victories in Egypt & Libya will defuse Islamist terrorist activities. The difference between political Islamists and militant Islamists is only the means by which they hope to achieve dominance of their beliefs, such as the separation of men & women, and the covering of women in tent like clothing. Even Islamist Iran's Constitution maintains the individual "right of expression," as long as that expression "doesn't oppose Islam or the laws of the government."
