An Afghan-led security force conducted an operation to detain a Haqqani leader in Nadir Shah Kot district, Khost province, Wednesday.
The leader, named Namat, organized roadside bombings and other attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces throughout the district.
As the security force approached his suspected location, Namat along with several other insurgents opened fire. The security force returned fire, killing Namat who was armed with an AK-47, a pistol and multiple grenades.
Following the exchange of fire, multiple additional Haqqani insurgents were detained.

The leader orders roadside bombings and other attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces throughout the district. He is also suspected of attempting to use insurgents in his network to infiltrate Afghan National Security Forces in Helmand for assassinations against Afghan officials, Afghan troops and ISAF troops. The security force detained multiple suspected insurgents and seized an AK-47, multiple grenades, explosive materials, and more than 150 pounds of opium as a result of this operation.
An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to detained a senior Taliban leader in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, Wednesday. The leader controls insurgent fighters operating in Zharay and Panjwa’i districts and in Kandahar City. He also supplies weapons, ammunition, and equipment to the insurgents under his control and coordinates their attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces. The security force detained multiple suspected insurgents as a result of this operation.
In Nesh district, Uruzgan province, an Afghan and coalition security force detained a senior weapons facilitator, Sunday. The facilitator supplied rockets, ammunition, improvised explosive device components and anti-personnel mines to insurgents throughout Uruzgan. The facilitator was also responsible for multiple attacks against ANSF and coalition forces.
Combined Afghan and coalition security forces discovered a weapons cache during routine patrol in Zharay district, Helmand province, Wednesday. The cache consisted of 71 rocket-propelled grenades, 15 improvised explosive devices, and a heavy machine gun. The seized material was transported to a secure location to be safely destroyed.

The security force detained several suspected insurgents as a result of this operation.
Finally, an Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to capture a Haqqani facilitator in Muhammad Aghah district, Logar province, Wednesday. The facilitator provides insurgents with explosive materials for roadside bombs used in attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces throughout the district. The security force detained several suspected insurgents as a result of this operation.
