KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan-led security force supported by coalition troops captured a senior Taliban leader during an operation in Dand district, Kandahar province, Saturday. The leader operates in Lashkar Gah district, Helmand province. He attempted to control the Afghan civilians and infrastructure in the district through murder and intimidation tactics.
He is also suspected in coordinating the assassination of a government official in Kabul. The security force also detained several other insurgents as a result of this operation.

An Afghan led supported by a coalition security force conducted an operation to detain a senior Taliban leader in Nad ‘Ali district, Helmand province, Friday.The leader, who is also an explosives expert, directs attacks throughout Nad ‘Ali and Lashkar Gah districts. He also coordinates with other Taliban leaders to supply weapons, ammunition, equipment and explosives to subordinates. Multiple suspected insurgents were detained as a result of the operation.
In Panjwa-i district, Kandahar province, an Afghan and coalition security force discovered a drug cache during counter-narcotics operation Friday. The cache consisted of approximately 300 pounds (136 kilograms) of hashish. Security forces destroyed the drugs without incident.

An Afghan and coalition security force captured a senior Taliban leader in Aliabad district, Kunduz province, Wednesday. The leader was the Taliban liaison for the Peshawar Shura, a group responsible for insurgent activity in eastern and northern Afghanistan. He also served as a facilitator for the Nuristan Taliban shadow governor and organized the transportation of weapons, foreign fighters and suicide bombers for attacks throughout the region.The security force detained two additional insurgents as a result of the operation.

Kunar Province
Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces killed four armed insurgents during an engagement in Watahpur District.
Paktika Province
Coalition forces killed four insurgents armed with rocket-propelled grenade launchers in Sorobi District. The insurgents were posing a threat to a base in the area. Afghan Border Police killed two insurgents and detained one during an engagement in Wazi Kwah District. Three motorcycles and two rocket-propelled grenade rounds were also captured.
Khowst Province
Coalition forces detained four individuals suspected of emplacing an improvised explosive device that killed one Afghan civilian in Khowst District. The suspects were in the area of the blast and tested positive to handling IED materials.
An insurgent-suicide bomber detonated in Terezaye District killing 10 Afghan civilians, one AFP, two Afghan Uniform Police and wounding one Afghan civilian, two ABP and three AUP. The wounded were medically evacuated to a nearby base for treatment.
