BAGRAM, Afghanistan (June 3, 2012) – Insurgents caused 24 casualties in eastern Afghanistan from May 26 through June 2. They injured 21 innocent civilians, killing three. Ghazni province suffered the most with a total of 13 wounded and the loss of a tribal elder, Hajji Mohammad. Mohammad was shot by two gunmen on motorcycles after performing the evening prayer.
“The people are tired of the insecurity and troubles insurgents are causing for them, and therefore they themselves have started to act and no longer want the insurgents to be in their areas. The enemies of the people of Afghanistan who don't want peace to prevail in this country, shamelessly and cruelly, kill innocent ordinary people and tribal elders in response. We condemn these cowardly acts of the enemies of the people of Afghanistan with the strongest terms," said Musa Khan Akbarzada, Ghanzi provincial governor.
Despite the efforts of the enemies of Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, ISAF forces in eastern Afghanistan remain committed to partnering with their Afghan National Security Forces counterparts to secure a stable and prosperous future for the Afghan people. RC-East
