BAGRAM, Afghanistan (Oct. 7, 2012) – Insurgents caused 59 civilian casualties in eastern Afghanistan from Oct. 1 to Oct. 6. They killed 15 Afghan civilians and injured another 44.
On Saturday evening, Taliban insurgents gunned down an Afghan National Police officer’s 10-year-old daughter and 18-year-old son in front of their home in the Khaja Hakim area of Ghazni city, Ghazni Province.
Ghazni Provincial Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada said he “condemned the inhuman and un-Islamic act of insurgents that killed two innocent children with the strongest terms. Insurgents are so weak; they can't face Afghan Security Forces, and instead, keep killing and injuring innocent civilians.”
Governor Akbarzada offered his condolences and sympathies to the family of the victims.
Despite the efforts of the enemies of the Government of Afghanistan, ISAF forces in eastern Afghanistan remain committed to partnering with their Afghan National Security Forces counterparts to secure a stable and prosperous future for the Afghan people
