BAGRAM, Afghanistan (Oct. 22, 2012) – Insurgents caused 18 civilian casualties in eastern Afghanistan from Oct. 14 to Oct. 20. They killed five Afghans and injured 13 others in eight attacks during the week.
An improvised explosive device attack Oct.15 in Jaghato district, Wardak province, killed two children and their uncle when their vehicle struck the insurgent-placed bomb.
Wardak Provincial Governor, Abdul Majid Khan Khogyani, condemned the attack, pointing to the continued lack of concern the insurgents have for the people of Afghanistan.
“It shows that insurgents are weak and have no respect for innocent civilian lives,” said Khogyani. “Insurgents can no longer face Afghan security forces, so now they either directly hurt civilians or plant IEDs, which ultimately kill or injure innocent civilians.
“People are tired and fed up with the insurgents’ attacks on innocent civilians,” Khogyani added. “The local residents of four villages in the Jaghato district have warned the Taliban to stop or they will rise up against them.”
Despite the efforts of the enemies of the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, ISAF forces in eastern Afghanistan remain committed to partnering with their Afghan National Security Forces counterparts to secure a stable and prosperous future for the Afghan people.
“The government of Afghanistan and its security forces are here for the people, and its highest priority is to provide security,” Khogyani said. “Afghan security forces constantly go after insurgents and ensure the people of Afghanistan that they work hard to bring those who responsible for hurting people into justice.”
