BAGRAM, Afghanistan (April 23, 2013) - Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces detained 10 suspected insurgents, discovered one weapons cache and found and safely cleared six improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, April 22.

Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Andar District.
Laghman Province
Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Alingar District.
Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces found and safely cleared one IED, detained 10 suspected insurgents and discovered a weapons cache during operations in the Mehtar Lam District. The detained suspects were transferred to a base for questioning. The cache contained 34 IEDs and
homemade explosive materiel.
Paktika Province
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared three IEDs during operations in the Khoshmand District.
KABUL, Afghanistan (April 22, 2013) – Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the death of a senior Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leader, Feda Mohammad, during an operation in Balkh district, Balkh province, Saturday.
Mohammad, also known as Omari, had a long history of planning attacks against civilians and Afghan and coalition forces. Prior to Afghan New Year’s celebrations in March, Mohammad coordinated a failed attack against public gatherings, specifically targeting the Balkh provincial governor and other government officials with suicide bombers. He also had extensive experience facilitating the movement of improvised explosive devices for use in insurgent operations.

Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the death of a senior Taliban leader, Mullah Hayatullah, during an operation in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, Thursday. Hayatullah was one of the top officials for the Taliban in Maiwand district. He was responsible for organizing and planning improvised explosive devices and small-arms fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also facilitated the movement of supplies, to include heavy and light weapons, for the Taliban network in his area and plotted to assassinate Afghans who support the local government and Afghan National Security Forces.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani leader and two other insurgents during an operation in Matun district, Khost province, Saturday. The leader is believed to be involved in planning and conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He has also performed reconnaissance operations for his cell, gathering and relaying intelligence to his fellow Haqqani fighters in order to bolster insurgent operations
