KABUL, Afghanistan (May 29, 2013) – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a senior Taliban leader and one other insurgent during an operation in Chimtal district, Balkh province, yesterday.
The senior leader is responsible for planning and conducting improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan government officials, in addition to Afghan and coalition forces. He facilitates the transfer, manufacturing and testing of IEDs, coordinates and conducts kidnapping operations to collect money for insurgent operations, and facilitates the movement of fighters.

An Afghan and coalition security force wounded one insurgent during an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator in Muhammad Aghah district, Logar province, yesterday. The Taliban facilitator is responsible for the transportation of fighters, weapons and suicide bombers as part of the Kabul attack network. He maintains operational control over a cell of fighters that carries out attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also equips suicide bombers with IEDs and coordinates the locations of their attacks.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested one insurgent during an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator in Kandahar City, Kandahar province, today. The facilitator constructs improvised explosive devices and distributes them to insurgents operating in the Arghandab River Valley and Kandahar City. He is also involved in overseeing weapons caches and planning attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in the local area.
East
Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the arrest of a Haqqani leader during an operation in Gardez district, Paktiya province, yesterday. The leader coordinates and directs attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Gardez district. He also facilitates the movement of weapons, military equipment and money to local insurgent cells, and serves as an intelligence operative for senior Haqqani leadership.
BAGRAM, Afghanistan (May 29, 2013) - Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces killed two insurgents, detained 10 suspected insurgents and found and safely cleared five improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, May 28.
Ghazni Province
Afghan National Security Forces killed one insurgent during operations in the Qara Bagh District.
Nangarhar Province
Coalition Forces detained one suspected insurgent during operations in the Behsood District. The suspect was transferred to a base for questioning.
Paktika Province
Afghan National Security Forces detained one suspected insurgent and found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Sarubi District. The suspect was transferred to a base for questioning.
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Urgun District.

Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces detained four suspected insurgents during operations in the Ahmad Abad District. The suspects were transferred to a base for questioning.
