They died June 8, in Sharana, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered from small arms fire received from enemy combatants in the Afghan Security Forces uniforms at Zarghun Shahr, Afghanistan. The soldiers were assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.
Killed were:
Lt. Col. Todd J. Clark, 40, of Evans Mills, N.Y., and
Maj. Jaimie E. Leonard, 39, of Warrick, N.Y.

Lt. Clark, a Security Force Assistance Advisory Team Commander, completed the ROTC program and was commissioned into the Army in August 1995. He arrived
at Fort Drum in January 2009. Clark deployed to Bosnia in 1999, to Kuwait in 2003, to Iraq in 2003, 2006 and 2009 and to Afghanistan in 2010. He again deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in January 2013.

Clark graduated from the Command and General Staff College; completed the Combat Life Savers Course, the Intermediate Level Education Qualification and Common Core Courses, the Cavalry Leader Course, the Armor Maneuver CPT Course, the Combined Arms Services Staff School Course, the Motor Pool Management Course, the Armor Basic Officer Leadership Course and the Airborne Course.

Major Jaimie E. Leonard, age 39, of Warrick, New York
Leonard, an Intelligence Officer, graduated in May 1997 from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned in the Army upon graduation. She arrived at Fort Drum in July 2010. Leonard deployed to Bosnia in 1999, to Iraq in 2005 and to Afghanistan in 2011. She again
deployed with her unit to Afghanistan in January 2013.

Leonard is survived by five siblings.
