KABUL, Afghanistan (June 12, 2013) – An Afghan and coalition security force killed four extremists and wounded one other during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province, yesterday.
The senior leader has operational control of a group of approximately 70 extremist fighters responsible for numerous attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Sayyidabad district involving rocket-propelled grenades, improvised explosive devices and small arms. He also oversees weapons trafficking in the local area and reports on extremist operations to ranking Taliban officials in Wardak province.

Commandos of First Company, 3rd Special Operations Kandak, Afghan National Army Special Forces, and Coalition forces killed one enemy combatant and destroyed homemade explosives and pressure plate improvised explosive devices in Panjwai district, Kandahar province, yesterday. Extremists attacked the Commandos, ANSF, and Coalition Forces with small arms fire as the joint forces conducted a clearing operation in the area to deny insurgents a safe haven. The Afghan forces recovered nine containers of homemade explosives and 12 pressure plate improvised explosive devices. The Commandos and ANASF destroyed the seized materials after ensuring the safety of nearby Afghan civilians. No Afghan or Coalition forces were injured during the operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested one extremist during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, today. The senior leader oversees an improvised explosive device cell responsible for numerous attacks on Afghan and coalition forces. He directs the procurement, construction and emplacement of IEDs in Chaparhar district, Nangarhar province. The security force also seized one AK-47, one ammunition magazine and multiple bundles of opium as a result of the operation.
Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the death of a senior Taliban leader, Zar Ahmad, during an operation in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, yesterday. Ahmad, also known as Qader, was instrumental in facilitating the movement of a large number of fighters through Khugyani district. He also oversaw a group of extremists responsible for multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, in addition to directing weapons facilitation in the area.
Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) wounded and arrested one insurgent in addition to destroying a rocket propelled grenade in Jani Khel district, Paktika province yesterday. In response to extremists attacking an Afghan National Army (ANA) patrol, the Jani Khel District Chief of Police organized and led Afghan National Security Force elements to counterattack. The attackers retreated after the Afghan forces wounded one of the attackers, who is currently in Afghan custody. No ANSF or ANA forces were injured during the engagement.
An Afghan and coalition security force killed four extremists during an operation in search of a senior Haqqani leader in Pul-e ‘Alam district, Logar province, yesterday. The senior leader is responsible for planning, facilitating and organizing attacks in Pul-e ‘Alam. He facilitates the movement of weapons and fighters in the local area.
BAGRAM, Afghanistan (June 12, 2013) - Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces killed eight enemy combatants, detained 14 enemy combatants and found and safely cleared nine improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, June 11.
