RC-East operational update | June 20
BAGRAM, Afghanistan (June 20, 2013) - Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces killed 16 enemies of Afghanistan and found and safely cleared seven improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, June 19.
Ghazni Province
Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces found and safely cleared two IEDs during operations in the Ab Band District.
Afghan National Security Forces killed one enemy of Afghanistan and found and safely cleared two IEDs during operations in the Ghazni District.
Afghan National Security Forces killed four enemies of Afghanistan during operations in the Muqor District.
Laghman Province
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Mehtar lam District.
Logar Province
Coalition Forces killed six enemies of Afghanistan during operations in the Baraki Barak District.
Nangarhar Province
Afghan National Security Forces killed four enemies of Afghanistan during operations in the Surkh Rod District.

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force killed a Taliban leader, Lal Mohammad, during an operation in Panjwa'i district, Kandahar province, June 19.
Mohammad produced, facilitated and disseminated improvised explosive devices to be used in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also facilitated the movement of weapons into the local area to be distributed among Taliban fighters.
South
Afghan Local Police reduced four improvised explosive devices in the Panjwa'i district, Kandahar province, June 19. The Pay-e Maluk village ALP engaged the enemies of Afghanistan after witnessing them emplace the IEDs. The enemies fled the area. The ALP reduced the IEDs only after ensuring the safety of nearby civilians and structures. The Pay-e Maluk checkpoint is the newest in the district and since their last clearance operation a week ago, the Pay-e Maluk ALP have reduced 12 IEDs during their daily patrols. No Afghan forces or civilians were injured during this operation.
East
An Afghan and coalition security force
killed two extremists during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province, June 19. The leader maintains operational control over a group of fighters responsible for attacks on Highway 1 targeting Afghan civilians, in addition to Afghan and coalition forces. He also coordinates the movement of weapons in the local area for use in extremist activities and performs intelligence and reconnaissance duties for senior Taliban leaders.
The local Provincial Response Company uncovered more than 800 pounds of homemade explosive material near Sra Kala Village and arrested a suspected facilitator of the illegal substances during a cordon and search operation in Wardak Province of Afghanistan June 19. The Afghan unit, working in coordination with the local Investigative Surveillance Unit and Coalition Special Forces advisors, removed and safely destroyed the explosive materials as part of efforts to disrupt extremists from targeting Afghan National Security Forces, Coalition partners and Afghan citizens with improvised explosive devices. The PRC is a Ministry of Interior force of special policemen that supports the Afghan Provincial Chief of Police for the execution of high risk law enforcement operations.
An Afghan and coalition security force arrested three extremists during an operation in search of a senior Haqqani leader in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, June 20. The senior leader is responsible for organizing and executing attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Paktiya province. He also manages supply routes that provide weapons and military equipment to Haqqani cells in the local area. The security force also seized one RPG launcher, one grenade, six anti-personnel mines, body armor, nine AK-47 magazines and ammunition as a result of the operation.
