BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan National Security and coalition forces killed 11 enemies of Afghanistan and found and safely cleared eight improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, June 20.
Ghazni province
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared two IEDs during operations in the Gelan district.
Khowst province
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Bak district.
Nangarhar province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces killed 10 enemies of Afghanistan during operations in the Achin district.

KABUL PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army Special Forces detained nine insurgents after foiling an insurgent attack in Mosahi district, Kabul province, June 19.
A large number of insurgents attacked the ANASF’s compound with small arms and machine gun fire.
An ANASF quick reaction force immediately deployed to the scene and returned fire with organic weapons, causing the majority of the insurgents to retreat. The ANASF captured nine insurgents as they tried to flee and the QRF recovered four enemy weapons.
NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Commandos from the 1st Special Operations
Kandak killed eight insurgents in Acheen district, Nangarhar province, June
20.
Insurgents opened fire with rocket propelled grenades and PKMs as
commandos conducted a clearing operation in Mohmand valley, near the Shadel
Bazaar. The commandos immediately returned fire and overpowered the enemy
fighters, killing eight.

KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the death of a Taliban leader, Jilani, during an operation in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province, June 19. Jilani maintained operational control over a group of fighters responsible for attacks on Highway 1 targeting Afghan civilians, in addition to Afghan and coalition forces. He also coordinated the movement of weapons in the local area for use in extremist activities and performed intelligence and reconnaissance duties for senior Taliban leaders.

East
An Afghan and coalition security arrested two extremists during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, June 21. The leader is a direct subordinate to one of the highest-ranking Taliban leaders in Nangarhar province. He is responsible for planning, coordinating and executing multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces utilizing large groups of extremist fighters. He also directs the movement of weapons, ammunition, money and other military equipment to Taliban cells active throughout Nangarhar province. The security force also seized a shotgun and 30 pounds of opium as a result of the operation.
An Afghan and coalition security arrested a Haqqani facilitator and five other extremists during an operation in Pul-e ‘Alam district, Wardak province, June 21. The facilitator oversees the transportation and distribution of weapons, ammunition and other military supplies to extremist
groups operating in Pul-e ‘Alam district. He has also participated in multiple attacks targeting Afghan and coalition forces.
West
Afghan National Army Special Forces of the 4th Special Operations Kandak, advised by coalition forces, killed five enemies of Afghanistan in Shindand district, Herat province, June 20. The enemy attacked the joint forces as they conducted a presence patrol in the vicinity of Kushe village, south Zereko valley. Three ANASF forces were wounded during this engagement.
South
Afghan National Army Special Forces, advised by Coalition Forces, killed three enemies of Afghanistan in Maiwand district, and members of the Afghan National Army killed five enemies of Afghanistan while on patrol in Khakrez district, Kandahar province, June 20.

ANA increases security of Highway 1 with corps level operation
BAGRAM, Afghanistan (June 21, 2013) - Soldiers from the Afghan National Army 203rd "Thunder" Corps completed a week-long security mission in eastern Afghanistan Tuesday, conducting route clearance on Afghanistan's most traveled roadway, Highway 1, and performing security patrols in remote villages of Wardak, Paktika, Paktiya, and Ghazni provinces, to clear them of enemies of Afghanistan.
The mission, named Operation Nijat, began June 11 and involved all four brigades from the 203rd "Thunder" Corps which is based in Gardez Province. Playing a supporting role in the operation was the Afghan National Civil Order Police and the Afghan Uniform Police.
Roughly 3,000 ANA Soldiers fanned out across the eastern provinces searching for and disabling enemy emplaced improvised explosive devices, setting up security checkpoints along roadways and conducting presence patrols in villages once under the influence of the Taliban.
Their efforts resulted in 10 enemies of Afghanistan killed, 29 suspected enemies of Afghanistan detained, 13 weapons caches and 2,000 pounds of homemade explosives found, and more than 100 improvised explosive devices found and safely cleared.
Senior leaders from the 203rd "Thunder" Corps and provincial government officials met with elders throughout the eastern provinces as the operation progressed. Shuras were held at six schools, with the largest taking place at Haftacia High School in Wardak Province. Over 50 teachers, 2,500 students, and 100 local village elders were in attendance.
