HELMAND PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Taliban insurgents wounded a child with an improvised explosive device in the Zombalay area, Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, June 25.

LOGAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army Special Forces and Afghan Local Police discovered multiple enemy caches and detained three insurgents in Baraki Barak district, Logar province, June 25.
The joint Afghan patrol conducted a clearing operation to deny insurgents a safe haven in Qarya-I Shaki village. While searching compounds of interest, the ANASF and ALP discovered more than 65kg of homemade explosives, six rocket-propelled grenades, various IED components, and Afghan National Security Force uniforms.
“The enemy was going to try to use these uniforms to make it seem like ANSF were attacking
innocent people, but we have stopped them from using that tactic,” said Master Sgt. Shafiqullah Delgir, an ANASF team sergeant. “We will not let the enemies use our villages to stage attacks on our government and people.”
The ANASF questioned nine males about the caches and detained three who tested positive for homemade explosives residue. The National Directorate of Security assumed custody of the three detainees. All others were released.
After ensuring the safety of nearby civilians, the ANASF and ALP destroyed the cache contents.
KABUL, Afghanistan - The International Security Assistance Force strongly condemns the senseless killing yesterday of nine Afghan women and children from a roadside IED in Kandahar province.
"The enemies of Afghanistan continue to demonstrate their complete disregard for human life and peace by deliberately placing IEDs along well-traveled roads or populated areas, indiscriminately
targeting innocent Afghan men, women and children, said Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, the ISAF commander. "Our condolences go out to the loved ones affected by yesterday’s senseless violence."
The IED attack in Kandahar came on the heels of an attack yesterday in Kabul which claimed the lives of Afghan security personnel.
