We announced yesterday the addition of US Cavalry and mentioned how it was such a perfect match for our site. Troops and their Supporters can now get discounts while attaining the things they need and contributing to continued publication of the site and Pro-Troop non-profits we support. But wait, there's more!
We've also partnered with Dick's Sporting Goods, Combat Optical, 5.11 Tactical, Sinclair International, JC Whitney, and Dollar Tree. Some are obvious matches while others not so much.
Sinclair International and Combat Optical deal with precision shooting and reloading. While US Cavalry has a wider range of tactical gear, if you want ammunition that is measured to most precise element of accuracy, or want to reload ammunition to such specifications, Sinclair can provide you that. When a grain here or there makes the difference, they're the ones you want.
And when the discriminating eye needs optics to read wind by the turbulence the bullet leaves in its wake and need to calculate how humidity and wind will effect the path before sending that bullet downrange, Sinclair and Combat Optics provide the glass and Kestrel's to do so.
(BTW: Mounting a Surefire or similar combat light takes a 1" scope ring.)
But what about Dick's Sporting Goods? Aside from the obvious: Troops enjoy sports in their downtime, some of the best gear for cold weather and tactical movements is actually hunting gear. I know of one sniper that swore by good ole Mossy Oak camo on his stalks. Of course he was training in the US Woodlands and was an avid hunter, but he never once mentioned making a ghillie suit. For troops in Afghanistan, more than in Iraq, the cold weather gear from a sporting gear may be of particular importance. For Troops, everywhere, a good pair of running shoes can be key.
A bicycle can be a hot commodity on a large FOB. Afghan kids have been exposed to Softball and basically any sport or exercise gear can be used to fill the downtime.
Yeah, Dick's Sporting Goods can be a great place to shop for our Troops both there and here!
5.11 Tactical deals primarily in clothing. Police Officers and Firefighters, as well as Contractors, are their primary customers. For the Warrior returning that wants cargo pockets and comfortable clothing whether dress (hidden thigh pockets) or casual, but doesn't want to wear the uniform (since that's against the rules), this is a great option! 5.11 also sells gear that the active Warrior will find beneficial! For a buy one, get one free covert tactical shirt, enter Coupon Code: 511COVERT through April 2010.
Free Multitool w/ Purchase! 2010-01-01 - 2010-03-31 FREE Multitool w/ Any Order of $75 or More (Limit 1 per order, while supplies last) w/ Code: MULTITOOL
Then there's Dollar Tree. The price conscious know that Dollar Tree has better deals than most other stores. For the Angel sending care packages on a regular basis, this is a way to get your Warrior more bang for your buck. Conventional Wisdom says to send baby wipes, toothbrushes, and other toiletries found at Dollar Tree, but there is an abundance of these items at some locations while a shortage of common items such as notebooks or highlighters.
Talk to your Troop and you'll be able to tailor your package to that location. Always in demand are some type of microwavable meal. The military always has a power source and somehow Joe always finds a way to get a microwave and historically (though less so in modern days) a coffee pot. (See Sniper Brew DevilDawg Brew and SemperFi Hank for the best coffee on the planet.)
Of course you can also shop these stores for yourself. These partners still support the site, no matter who consumes their products, as long as you click through our links!
JC Whitney is an old name in Auto Parts and Accessories, particularly when it comes to hard to find accessories and the best prices for any part. I used to peruse their catalog as a kid and became a customer when I got my first $500.00 car. (Back in the day, that's what it cost for a road worthy used car that was perfect for a 16 year old that needed periodic experience learning how to make repairs.) I'm sure if I were deployed, I'd be able to find something in there that would be perfect for updating a Military Vehicle for a specific mission such as a coffee pot that runs on 12 or 24 volts DC. But this store can also be used by the car afficionado/Warrior when he returns.
And of course, there's US Cavalry!
