How Can YOU Use the War On Terror News

Those I know in the world of politics are telling me that the War In Afghanistan will be a major issue in the 2012 campaign.  The same people had predicted the tenor of the 2010 election results in 2008.  In other words, there is good reason to believe they are correct.  In most ways, it is a good thing that politics will refocus the Citizenry on Our Troops in Afghanistan.  The question is what will be used as facts in the debate?

Two years is but a blink of an eye in politics.  As Congress prepares to take their new offices and seats, politicians are deciding whether or not to challenge those that have yet to make their first Congressional votes.  By the end of 2011, those challengers will be deciding which issues to campaign on.  Politicians in Congress are settling on strategies to force votes on legislation to misconstrue their ideological opponents.

Let's resolve to expose the willing to the facts, the truth, as much of the story as can be told.  Let's resolve to shape the 2012 debate with an educated electorate, immune from emotional propaganda.  The only force that can defeat Our Troops is the body politic and they can do so only with the tacit approval of the Citizenry.  If the issue is shaped by full knowledge of the ground truth, the political debate can rest on facts, not false slogans.

There is the saying "ignorance is bliss", which is just one small element of the problem. All the people mentioned in your piece from our President on down simply try to rationalize the irrational and just love to debate, discuss, 'create panels' etc., etc. Politicians love to talk. Just watch C-Span for thirty minutes or so. I wish I had could be a congress person because I would love to stand up all day and talk and talk and talk some more.

My HUGE pet peeve. This was not a 'foiled' or 'unsuccessful' attempt.... the objective of terrorism is to terrorize, right? So in reality...the 'panty' bomber did achieve his mission --he terrorized an large airliner full of innocent men, women and children..their families, and the country. ONLY, out of sheer luck (this time) the detonator malfunctioned and so the bickering and finger pointing and worse, the denials...continue. Make no mistake however, this was a test ... just as there have been others. The American people need to take their heads out of 'la la' land (e.g. Kate+8) and 'blab,blab, blab TV....instead of delegating the 'dirty work' and 'clean up' for our troops to handle.

Politics Only as Pertains to National Defense...

It is not that the authors and editors have no opinions about Health Care Reform, Stimulus Bills, the National Deficit, the National Debt, Social Security, Hate Crime Legislation, or Same-Sex Marriage initiatives.  It is not that the authors and editors refuse political party affiliation, though the Editor/Owner (me) is a proud independent, refusing to accept the demands and platforms of either party as his own.

It is my steadfast position and accepted condition of contributions that the only politics opined here are those of National Defense.  This publication has no favored party.  This publication considers National Defense to be of such importance that we established the policy that we comment on politics only that effect it.  When a politician weighs in on National Defense, it does not matter what party they belong to, it matters only the effect on the issue they have.  Our favored technique is to quote them, to let their words define their position, most often with no comment on their party.

This year has seen two major issues of National Defense in the political arena: the 2010 DoD Budget & now the Indecision of Supporting the needs to win in Afghanistan.  Our position is based on the same principle as was our position on the Petraeus Plan: Support Our General, the Battlefield Commander.  He is in the best position to know what he needs to do the job he was sent to do.  While the Petreaus Plan was supported/opposed largely along party lines, the McChrystal Plan is splitting the Democratic Party.
