He was a Motor Transport Operator assigned to Forward Support Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Air Assault. Owens joined the Army in August 2007 and arrived at Fort Campbell in January 2008.
His awards and decorations include: Purple Heart; Army Commendation Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Achievement Medal w/Oaf Leaf Cluster; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Valorous Unit Award; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Ribbon; Combat Action Badge; Driver & Mechanic Badge with Driver – Wheeled Vehicles; and Weapons Qualification: M4, expert. He was posthumously promoted from specialist to sergeant.
Sergeant Vincent Lee Carson Owens, 21, born Nov 14, 1988, of Fort Smith, AK, originally from Keota, OK.
He played football at Van Buren High School.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles.
His service was held March 12, 2010 at Victory Worship Center. He was laid to rest in Fort Smith, AK.
