While we take the position that the news is important, the sheer volume of news reports at War On Terror News buries elements that we consider important. As these become more obvious, we consider ways to make them easier to find. One reader pointed out that she wished there were a way to see the original content. Let's face it, the military doesn't believe in interesting writing styles. They can't. If they were to write in the style I do, they'd be accused of "propaganda."
And sometimes it's necessary to crunch the data, in this case, news stories. There is a balance between hundreds of individual stories of Battles Won, Schools Built, & Civilians Saved and raw numbers on it. Our main site, War On Terror News, provides the evidence and maintains the historical record. Most articles that appear here will also or already have been published there. The difference is that this site is solely dedicated to the original content of authors there.
In my personal writing, I find that there is a certain level that I can break down data, but that often the first level of breaking down the data is still pretty number intensive. To break it down too far breaks the link. But then it can be referenced for further analysis and commentary. Examples of this include my articles on The Surge in Iraq and Afghanistan. I derive the information from the Brooking's Institute's "Indices" which are full of important data and other independent sources, but hardly an interesting read. Breaking it down a level doesn't make it an easy read, but affords others a reference to break down further.
The outright lies section is "Time Travels" where war stories are told without any verification of the truth, occasionally with the statement that they are pure fiction.
The Facts section is the main site, where reports directly from Our Troops are published along with Perspectives, as a category. From the main site, other sections of the News site are derived, with a special focus.
Overcoming Adversity tells the stories of Our Wounded that won't quit. It was inspired by the stories of Jon White, who was offered a military retirement if he'd just accept life in a wheelchair from a parachute accident. He didn't. He has gone on to several deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan (and elsewhere) as well as to run several marathons, including the Marine Corps Marathon three times, at a rate of 10 minute miles. In running more than 75 miles in marathons and thousands of miles preparing, he has helped raise more than $10,000. His story is joined by those like him, such as TJ Edwards & John Wayne Walding and so many others that are still doing more with fewer limbs than most do in full health.
And Project Honor is a relatively new addition, where we tell the stories of Life of Our Fallen Heroes, without ads, without politics, and without solicitation of money. No story can ever be considered complete, as there is always the hope that someone else that knew them will step up to tell a bit more of the story of their lives. Project Honor will not be complete until the story of the life of every Warrior that has made the ultimate sacrifice is told. Our emphasis is on those of the Global War On Terror, but we will be happy to publish the stories of the lives of earlier conflicts as well.
Our Fallen Warriors can no longer speak for themselves, but they swore to defend the Constitution and Our Nation against all enemies, regardless of who the President was, or what the letter behind his name. They served under Democrats and under Republicans, regardless of who they voted for. They didn't volunteer to die, nor is their death the defining moment of their lives. They volunteered to protect Our Citizens and they should be remembered for all of their Valor, Victories, and Generosity, not just the day that the enemy got lucky.
But in Perspectives, I try to give insight into the Warrior mindset, on how politics and politicians effect Our Troops, on why the enemy commits the atrocities it does, and on why so many Warriors are willing to risk all and sacrifice much to keep you, Our Citizens, safe. My evidence is posted at our main site, but here I'll show you why Our Troops are willing to risk all for a Nation that seems increasingly distant from her Protectors and in understanding her enemies.
