It is a widespread perception that terrorist organizations are independent of each other and compete or aggressive to others. While this may have held true in times past, one of the key developments of the 90’s were the increasing alliances and unified efforts of various organizations under umbrella organizations and direction of key state sponsors of terror.
These alliances are designed to further a financial/politico-military goal rather than being purely ideological. On the international government level, this is most evident in the alliances of ideological opponents in order to further the power of otherwise weak causes. But it also demonstrates that the ideologies are simple tools of powerful elites who lust for even greater power.
If the Iranian dictator were ideologically pure, would he really have key allies such as Kim Il Jong who propagandizes to his own people that he is a god? Can a "fundamentalist Muslim" truly be allied with Hugo Chavez, who purports to be a Catholic, while holding the Catholic Church itself as a primary enemy of Islam? And these are simply the more obvious hypocrisies of the "Islamic Republic of Iran."
At the base of this discussion, is the rise to power of Osama bin Laden, and the roots, the mechanisms, and the means of it. The intent is to dispel myths of his “fundamental” religious beliefs, myths of the Sunni-Shi’a conflict, myths of OBL's piety, as well as dispel what amounts to propaganda initiated by various elements and propagated by political and media organizations for their own gains, even when in conflict with the original purpose of the propaganda itself.
To understand the reality of the purpose of these myths, one must first realize that attaining power can be achieved only by consent of those ruled. All tyrannies must have sufficient numbers of loyal enforcers of the tyrannical government. Communism brutalized the same strata of people that it asked to shed its blood to install it. It convinced the masses to overthrow their previous rulers with a promise of financial equality.
Islamism, the politico-economic system which uses Islam as its base of motivation and recruitment, claims its authority as the “dictates of Allah” himself.
Just as does the Bible, so to does the Koran state that it is a cardinal sin to add to or delete from the “Word of God.” Hence, no fundamentalist of either religion can be anything more than a heretic and hypocrite if he claims both to be the mouthpiece of God while also changing the dictates of the holy book he proclaims as the base of his authority. Given the iron dictates of a “fundamentalist” in their holy book, any purposeful and willing deviation from it, demonstrates the reality of them as a false prophet.
One need not disprove every tenet to prove that. One need only demonstrate one willful fallacy, to take out only one cornerstone to bring down the entire house of cards.
Just as did the Roman Catholic Church in the Dark Ages, so too does the Islamist ideology in the 21st Century attempt to cover falsehoods with ignorance. “Radical” Islamic leaders (heretical power hungry elites) attempt to keep the populace ignorant of the holy book, in order to selectively use its passages and their interpretations to motivate the masses to further the power of the powerful over the ruled.
The goal is not universal salvation or piety or service to “the one true god,” but enrichment and empowerment of the mullahs and ayatollahs themselves. This is the result when the greed of power in humans attains the reins of religion. It is an indictment of the hypocritical power mongers rather than the religion which they have abused.
With this background, we can look at the rise of the false prophet, Osama bin Laden. While this information is compiled by a number of sources, one of the best is Bin Laden, The Man Who Declared War on America, Yossef Bodansky, 1999 & 2001. Of particular note is that this book was written pre-9/11 and was a NYTimes Bestseller. Bodansky was the director of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism, which means that not only is his work available to any citizen interested, but by implication to the members of Congress well before 9/11.
