What makes the Martin-Zimmermann case so different from other crimes? An effective media campaign does. When one looks at the facts, it is difficult to conclude that the misinformation of the MSM was not purposeful. It was 3 weeks after the incident that the MSM jumped on the case, so they did have time to examine the facts.
[Pictured: Tyrone Woodfork who raped and murdered the wife of a WWII Veteran and beat the Veteran himself in Tulsa, OK.]
The MSM presented the Nation (and continues to do so) a picture of a 12 year old, instead of the more recent and available pictures of the 17 year old, who had embraced the gangsta look. They told us he had no criminal record, despite the fact he had been suspended from school 3x in just the last few months, including on illicit drug charges and for attacking a bus driver. But the most telling and obvious example of how they mis-portrayed the facts is the 911 call, which they edited to sound as if Zimmerman were reporting a "suspicious black man" as opposed to answering the dispatcher's questions as to the physical description of the person he had believed suspicious enough to call police about.
The result of the MSM campaign? Americans are as divided, along the same lines, as they were in 1995 over the OJ Simpson murder trial. The MSM's darling was re-elected in 1996 as well, but the campaign is more about Gun Laws now, as anything else. It isn't about an "innocent kid" being killed. It isn't about an "innocent" victim. The MSM has been silent about an unarmed Marine shot down in front of his children by an Orange County Deputy, about an elderly man beat down in the streets by 4 teenage thugs shouting "Remember Treyvon," the brutal rape and murder of a WWII Veteran's wife, and was silent about the 2008 Murder of Eve Carson.
In 2010, Sanford, FL had 356 violent crimes including: 3 murders, 38 rapes, 174 robberies, 141 aggravated assaults, plus 3,367 property crimes, in a population of 52,325. In a 2010 FBI report on municipalities totaling 196,260,987 Americans, there were 899,678 violent crimes reported, including 10,632 murders and 57,098 rapes, and 6,512,053 property crimes. There is a greater than 3 in 100 chance that you were a victim of a crime in 2010, approximately 3 in 1000 women were forcibly raped in 2010, and 1 in 5000 chance of being murdered in the reported population.
What makes this one so different? The MSM is campaigning against State Laws that clarify that Americans are not required to be victims to crime, nor run away from criminals, but have an inherent right to defend themselves when faced with violence. The media campaign incorporated race and that, mobilized the New Black Panthers, Jesse Jackson, & Al Sharpton, who are all too willing to elicit donations to their wallets from their bully pulpits. It conforms to the political agenda of the POTUS who is campaigning for re-election, and needs that black vote re-mobilized.
Restricting Citizens Rights to the 2nd Amendment and inciting emotions of racism are a win-win for the party platform of the POTUS, who has stated, "If (he) had a son, he might look like" the "victim." No similar statement was made about the criminal in Tulsa or the victim in Orange County, because those cases didn't meet the political agenda.
In 2010, the "Stand Your Ground" law resulted in 278 justifiable homicides, 232 of which involved a would be victim using a firearm while killing a felon in the process of committing a felony. This is contrasted with 542 murders in 9,695,267 of their reported population. Rape and Murder are both significantly down in FL since the implementation of the Law.
In this case, the MSM likes to tout that Zimmerman "pursued" Martin, despite the "orders," (which hold no legal standing) of a dispatcher, who is not a trained Law Enforcement Officer (though they don't point that out). What they don't point out is that Martin, who Zimmerman had previously described as acting suspiciously, had ducked into the shadows between two homes and attacked Zimmerman as he was returning to his truck. They have shown us a fuzzy video of Zimmerman in the police station that night, though don't point out that the Police were interrogating him. They tell us that there is no noticeable harm to Zimmerman in the poor quality video, without noting that he had been treated on the scene by EMT's for his injuries.
Despite the facts (mostly unreported in the MSM), what are the results? USAToday reports that 72% of blacks believe Zimmerman committed a crime. A Christian Science Monitor poll finds 73% of blacks believe the Martin case is a racism case. The MSM campaign has been effective, precisely because it has ignored the facts. They have chosen this particular case, though it is NOT representative of a typical firearms related death. They have chosen to ignore murders and rapes that did not meet their political agenda. They have purposely stoked the emotional flames of racism, because it fits their political agenda, and refused to let the facts get in their way.
